Fox News Likes YouTube Censorship?

On Fox News, Bill O'Reilly and Amanda Carpenter were more than happy to report on the new restrictions on YouTube, though without reporting on the the changes in profanity rules that are proving most controversial. Meanwhile, Fox Television, joined by other broadcast networks, is fighting all the way to the US Supreme Court to protect their right to broadcast profanity. The changes in YouTube policy I discuss in this video are detailed in the December 2, 2008, YouTube blog entry at http://www.youtube.com/blog?entry=AEX3_7h40mk The short clip I used from "The O'Reilly Factor" was broadcast on Fox News on December 10, 2008. The oral argument in Fox Television v FCC in the Second Circuit Court of Appeals from which I took two short clips for my video was originally broadcast on C-SPAN on December 20, 2006 and is available in full on the C-SPAN video archive online at http://www.c-spanarchives.org/library/index.php?main_page=product_video_info&products_id=195903-1

Reject the Hate in '08!
Barack Obama's candidacy has put a national spotlight on race in a way that this country has not seen in a generation plus. As the finish line gets closer the question looms: what will white voters do in this election? The past week has made it clear that the McCain/ Palin camp is willing to go to any length to win these white votes - even leveling attacks with racist innuendos and euphemisms. The negatively charged attacks have egged on angry crowds and stoked racist prejudices. AWARE-LA, a Los Angeles group of concerned white residents and activists, has a launched a public awareness campaign to combat these escalating racist attacks. This is a pivotal moment for the history of this country and for racial justice. Its important we are able to look back at this time and say that the people of this country did the right thing - expose the Right's tactic of racist appeals and reject it! This video was created in collaboration with an allied multi-racial organization. AWARE-LA has a blog devoted to providing an anti-racist perspective on the 08 Elections: www.DoubleTake08.org AWARE-LA is organizing a community event on Oct 25 in Los Angeles, to discuss racism in the 08 elections. The event, entitled The Ballot Box and Beyond: Race, Elections and the Making of History, will feature workshops and a panel discussion with numerous community leaders. Fox Television v. FCC (2006)

2nd Circuit Court of Appeals 12/20/2006, C-SPAN Program ID: 195903-1 From C-SPAN's Description: Oral arguments were heard by the Second Circuit Court of Appeals in the case of Fox Television v. Federal Communications Commission. Fox Television was challenging the FCC's indecency standards and the way it punished broadcasters for airing shows that contain profanity. The network argued that the government violated the First Amendment by embarking on a "radical reinterpretation and expansion" of its power to punish broadcasters for indecent speech. The network contended that the FCC sharply changed its standards for profanity, that the standards were vague and made little sense in the face of industry changes. The FCC fined Fox for language used by Cher and Nicole Richie on the live broadcasts of the 2002 and 2003 Billboard Music Awards, respectively. Language used may offend some viewers.

Reporters Blow Whistle on FOX News

FOX News told reporter: "We'll tell you what the news is. The news is what we say it is." Reporters Steve Wilson and Jane Akre were first asked by FOX News and later bribed, to downplay a story they had on a cancer-causing growth hormone called Posilac. The reporters decided to blow the whistle on FOX News and filed a law suit. After the ordeal was over, it was discovered in the appeals court that it's actually not against the law to falsify the "News." Documentary clip from, "The Corporation" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0379225/ http://www.thecorporation.com To make matters worse, Monsanto Corporation (makers of Posilac), lobbied dearly in Congress to prevent consumer awareness and labeling of their products. -Monsanto's chemical trail of terror since 1901: http://www.laleva.cc/pharma/monsantofiles.html#Anchor- Controversial-30849 __________________________ Additional Tags: FOX BGH law suit appeals court bovine growth hormone milk news distortion
