I Exist is the National Autistic Societys campaign to improve the lives of adults with autism.
The campaign has had key wins across England, Scotland and Wales since its launch in February 2008, and will launch in Northern Ireland on October 16th. These include: a major announcement from the Department of Health in England, which included funding for a study into the numbers of adults with autism; new guidance published by the Scottish Government to help meet the needs of adults with autism; and a commitment to recognise the needs of adults with autism in Wales in the Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) action plan.
The fact that we have achieved so much is testament to the fantastic level of support that there has been for the campaign. To follow-up this success, we now need to concentrate on our demands at a local level to ensure that real changes happen locally. CDC Chief Admits that Vaccines Trigger Autism
|
Julie Gerberding, the head of the CDC, went on CNN's House Call with Dr. Sanjay Gupta to discuss the Hannah Poling case and admitted that vaccines trigger autism in a subset of the population with mitochondrial disorders.
It is time for Dr. Gerberding to answer some hard questions before congress.
Call for congressional hearings into the Vaccine Injury Compensation Fund autism cases, so we can find out what the government knows about the relationship between vaccines and autism.

Addendum: Gerberding/CDC/HHS has given several names to the phenomenon of Vaccine Induced Autism. Gerberding calls it the "symptoms of autism" in this interview, "autism like syndrome" during a previous CDC press conference and HHS refers to it as "vaccine induced encepalopathy" on their website for the Vaccine Injury Compensation fund.
I wrote this piece (see link below) to point out the absurdity of trying to fool the American people into thinking that vaccines cause something that looks exactly like autism, and in fact is diagnosed as autism by every professional the child sees, but is actually an "autism like syndrome" with the "symptoms of autism" that occurred following a "vaccine induced encepalopathy" which has the exact same symptoms as autism, but it is not really autism... oh... and by the way... vaccines don't cause autism.
It is time to end the word games and deal with the problem.

Lecture delivered by Temple Grandin, a noted expert and author on early intervention, educational strategies, visual thinking, social skills, medications and mentoring. Grandin presents around the world and is the author of several books including Emergence: Label Autistic, Thinking in Pictures, Unwritten Rules of Social Relationships, co-authored with Sean Barron. In addition to several DVDs, her recent release of Animals in Translation maintained a top 10 position on the New York Times best-seller list. Based on statistics provided by the Autism Society of America, it is estimated that one in every 150 children born in the United States has autism and approximately 1 million in this country have this disorder, which does not include Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD), Asperger's and other spectrum disorders. A new case of autism is diagnosed nearly every 20 minutes, meaning approximately 24,000 new cases diagnosed in the U.S. per year. |

"We must build a world free of unnecessary barriers, stereotypes, and discrimination .... policies must be developed, attitudes must be shaped, and buildings and organizations must be designed to ensure that everyone has a chance to get the education they need and live independently as full citizens in their communities."
Obama's comprehensive agenda to empower individuals with disabilities fits in with the campaign's overarching message of equalizing opportunities for all Americans.
In addition to reclaiming America's global leadership on this issue by becoming a signatory to -- and having the Senate ratify -- the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the plan has four parts, designed to provide lifelong supports and resources to Americans with disabilities. They are as follows:
First, provide Americans with disabilities with the educational opportunities they need to succeed.
Second, end discrimination and promote equal opportunity.
Third, increase the employment rate of workers with disabilities.
And fourth, support independent, community-based living for Americans with disabilities.

Mother's view on Autism
|
This video is my view on the world of autism and how we should accept autistics without wanting them to change. They deserve dignity within whom they are. There is NO cure for autism, so if you have an autistic loved one in your life, just enjoy them for who they are. Let them become the person that they are to be without trying to change or cure them. Trying to cure them is damaging to them and those in their lives. It doesn't work and is a waste of time. The only thing that you can do is give them love, support, and guidance. Just love them and don't get stressed with having them in your life. |
