Karen Carpenter - Merry Christmas, Darling (The Bruce Forsyth Show - December 1978)
|
In December 1978, Karen and Richard were scheduled to appear on a British entertainer Bruce Forsyth's show. Richard, however, was suffering from the effects of his addiction to quaaludes and was unable to appear. Karen explained his absence by saying that Richard was sick with the flu.
On the show, Karen performed "Please, Mr. Postman," "Merry Christmas, Darling," and "I Need to Be in Love." All the video clips I've seen of her appearance on the Bruce Forsyth Show are of dubious quality, except for a Karaoke version of her singing "Please, Mr. Postman," which can be seen here:

Note: too late, I realized that I made a mistake in the credits at the end of the video. This video aired in December 1978, not 1977. A month after this video, Richard entered a rehabilitation clinic in Topeka, Kansas and Karen moved to New York to begin work on her solo album. |
