Many LTTE activities in Kilinochchi
Information on many LTTE activities is bared with the capture of Kilinochchi by the war heroes.
Troops have taken control of many buildings of the terrorists after dislodging them from the A-9 Highway and Kilinochchi. The head office of the Tamil Rehabilitation Organisation, which supported the LTTE, is one of them. The terrorists had used the Kilinochchi Maha Vidyalaya to the maximum for their activities. They had placed their heavy weapons in the premises to attack the security forces. The troops are in control of the Kilinochchi post office. The Government had provided all facilities to this post office. The Security Forces had been able to recover a bullet proof modified vehicle. The terrorists had used this vehicle to transport food and weapons to the battlefront. However, there is evident that the terrorists had fled carrying the dead and their injured cadres after Kilinochchi was attacked from three fronts. |

Another LTTE communication tower captured
The Security Forces have taken control of another tower of the LTTE terrorists, further paralysing their communication network.
Our Special Representative Sujith Vithana Pathirana reporting from the battlefront said troops of the 59th Division engaged in the Wanni operations have taken control of the powerful communications tower located within the thick jungles. It is over 200 feet high. The terrorists may have used it to undertake their communications in the area. Attempts made by the LTTE to dissemble the tower did not succeed due to the strategic and streamlined operations of the troops. Generators had been used to supply power to the tower. Two underground bunkers were located close to it. The LTTE may have used these as their communication centres. The 59th Division captured the tower under the guidance of Brigadier Nandana Udawatte and the supervision of Lt. Colonel Manisha De Silva of the 14th Regiment. The LTTE used this tower to undertake its communications in the Mulleyaveli, Oddusudan, Nedunkerni, Kumalamunai and Alampil areas. The capture of the tower besets the LTTE with many problems. The terrorists are daily losing their facilities due to the advancement of the troops. Our Special Representative pointed out that the 59th Division is further continuing their operations advancing into LTTE dominated areas.. |

Dec 23, Colombo: Sri Lankan troops advancing ahead of battlefronts in Kilinochchi today brought another LTTE stronghold under their control despite heavy enemy resistance, the military said.
Troops of the Task Force -1 marching forward from the west of A-9 Jaffna-Kandy highway captured the LTTE stronghold of Sinna Paranthan located along the A-35 main road, 6km west of Paranthan Township, the military reported.
Following heavy battles facing stiff resistance from the Tigers the troops are now consolidating positions 300m further south along the LTTE built earth bund, defence sources said.
Citing intercepted LTTE communication, defence authorities said 12 LTTE cadres have been killed while many others were injured. |

A powerful LTTE trawler and Radar Centre found
The Security Forces have recovered a powerful attack trawler of the sea tigers hidden in Alampil liberated from the terrorists. In addition, the Security Forces have taken control of a Radar Centre maintained by the terrorists in the area.
Our Special Representative Sujith Vithana Pathirana giving more details said Alampil and Chenmalai on the sea belt were vital for the sea tigers. Its capture by the troops is a serious defeat suffered by the terrorists. The troops found a trawler during a search operation after the capture of Alampil. It was concealed in a shrub. The boat had been modified by the terrorists. It is believed that three 500 horse power engines may had been installed. The trawler appears like an aircraft. It can accommodate many persons. The troops suspect whether the trawler had been modified to be used in a suicide attack after placing explosives.
The representative said the Radar Centre was covered with logs. There was an underground bunker nearby with two entrances. Such military strategies and terrorist activities had been rife in the Alampil sea belt. |

SriLanka Navy destroys LTTE arms vessel "Matshusima"
|
Sri Lanka Navy today 10/8/2007 destroyed another LTTE(terrorists) arms carrying ship in the high seas 1,700 km off Dondra Head, the southern extremity of Sri Lanka.
LTTE vessel identified as MV "Matshusima" was intercepted and destroyed by Naval Task units after a long hot pursuit, security sources said.
The 70 m long vessel had a displacement of 3,000 tons. There were 12 to 15 LTTE cadres on board the vessel at the time it was destroyed. This is the 08th vessel of the LTTE's arms smuggling fleet destroyed in recent months by the Sri Lanka Navy.
Reports said the vessel, part of the LTTE floating arms warehouse, was believed to be transferring long range artillery rounds, high-speed water scooters, sophisticated diving apparatus, outboard motors, radar and global positioning (GPS) equipment, high power transmission equipment and communications interception equipment for the proscribed terror outfit.
After one and half day's surveillance of the vessel, the naval task unit approached it around 5.30 this morning. The Navy gun-ships had rounded up the suspicious vessel which had no ensign or name on it and ordered it to identify itself, using international challenging procedures. Instead of providing the information to the Navy, the suspicious ship had opened medium range caliber gun fire towards the navy ships compelling retaliation, causing the ship to be destroyed around 9.30a.m.
Naval Spokesperson Commander D.K.P Dassanayake said, the attack took place in the Indian Ocean, at the high seas off Dondra Head. The SL Naval task group comprising Off Shore Patrol vessels "SLNS Sayura", "SLNS Sagara", Fast Attack Vessel "SLNS Suranimila" , Rendezvous vessels 520 and 521 were engaged in this Naval operation, the Naval Spokesperson further added.
Last month the Sri Lanka Navy destroyed three other arms carrying vessels of the LTTE also in international waters off the south of Sri Lanka.
Defence observers say this is another major achievement by the Navy at incapacitating LTTE's international arms smuggling fleet.
The Navy has recently been able to destroy seven arms carrying LTTE ships, causing considerable damage to the LTTE's arms smuggling and gun-running activities. Defence observers attribute the important successes of the Navy in destroying large LTTE ships to the steps taken by the Navy command to enhance naval intelligence activities. |
